ABOUT THE COURSE :

Dear Friends,

Majority of the cases of Back Pain require non-surgical care. It is a common observation that this Non-surgical care is often given empirically without the scientific, rational thought process. Inappropriate care is often likely to fail and on the other hand may contribute to recurrences or chronicity. Unfortunately, the training curricula of the managing personnel ( Orthopaedic surgeons, Neurosurgeons, Rehab Specialists and others) do not include sufficient deliberations on proper understanding of spinal disorders and their scientific care. There are many aspects of the basic sciences, of the disease processes, of the clinical methodologies and of the Back Care, which are either ill-understood or incompletely understood.

During updating courses the Ortho and Neurosurgeons are taught advanced spinal surgical techniques and instrumentations. Many a surgeons do not benefit from such courses because their basic development as Spine Care Surgeon has been either neglected or has been inadequate.

At Ashwini Back Institute, for the last many years we informally train many a Back Care personnel who can spend time with us. They all have expressed satisfaction and a desire to learn more. However, most people though keenly interested in learning scientific Back Care, find it difficult to spend more than a few days away from their routine work. As an answer to this problem . We have been conducting a structured formal course on 'Care Of The Lumbar Spine.' As far as we know, this is the only such comprehensive, exhaustive scientific course about Back Care held anywhere.

The Course is designed and based on our experiences of over last 30 years in managing spinal problems scientifically in an academic set-up. Keeping the perspectives and needs of the Spine-care personnel the course includes thorough understanding of basic knowledge of the spine and or the spinal problems. In light of this basic scientific knowledge, the treatment modalities including surgical aspects are discussed for their rationale, indications, utility and risks, bringing forth the planning strategies in such a manner that appropriate treatment would automatically evolve.

This year's course was modified to include surgical aspects of the care specially tailored for Ortho and Neurosurgeons who are responsible for surgical spine care. With the inclusion of deliberations on surgical management, spread over one full day the course was even more beneficial for the attendies. For Non-Surgeons, one full day detailed workshops on certain aspects of lumbar spine care were included.

Ashwini Back Institute is a pioneer academic institute devoted to Back care in India, with a large patient population. All the courses held in the last 7 years were overbooked and were found immensely useful by the delegates.
